Our EMT training course, which is offered throughout New York including Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx, includes a mixture of practical and lecture-based instruction. Students will be required to demonstrate competence in practical skills as well as on written examinations.
In addition, each student will complete clinical rotations to achieve 10 patient contacts. These clinical rotations are generally completed by riding on an active ambulance. We provide the rotations for you through our partner agencies; you do not need to find your own placement. These shifts are completed outside of regular class hours.
Students who successfully complete all course requirements will take the NYS EMT-Basic Certification exams.

A candidate with a criminal conviction may attend and complete all of the requirements of the EMT-Basic course. However, the candidate will not be permitted to take the NYS certification exams until the NYS DOH has reviewed the circumstances of the conviction(s) and determined that the candidate does not demonstrate a risk or danger to patients. Yes. To complete your clinical rotations, you will be required to submit a completed health clearance form. This form, along with its specific submission deadline, will be provided to you on the day of orientation so you have time to get it completed by a healthcare provider.

The EMT training programs are offered on an ongoing basis, in several locations throughout New York, with varying schedules to accommodate our large student population. Please check our course listing page for exact schedule details and information.
Because this is a state-approved program with strict hourly requirements, attendance is heavily monitored. Students are permitted to miss a maximum of 6 sessions throughout the entire course. Please note that for daytime courses, there are generally 2 sessions per day, while evening courses have 1 session per day.
If you miss a class, lecture sessions can be made up online, while hands-on skills sessions must be made up in person. Our staff will assist you with arranging these makeups when needed. However, completing a makeup session does not erase the original absence from your attendance record. The absolute maximum limit remains at 6 absences.
Tuition includes all required equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and CPR face mask) as well as the course textbook with online access.

Your tuition covers your textbook, core medical equipment (blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, and CPR face mask), and an EMT student T-shirt. Please note that the NYS Written Exam and the NREMT Cognitive Exam are separate charges paid directly to the respective testing agencies (PSI for the New York State exam, and the National Registry for the NREMT exam).
Yes. Upon successful completion of the course and passing the New York State Practical Skills Exam which takes place in class, you are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) exam. To get certified nationally, you can create an account and register for the cognitive exam directly at nremt.org.
